Amazon Compliance Documents

InvestigateTV examined 429 recalled home goods in their research. According to the findings, these goods were responsible for 1,600 injuries and 62 deaths.

Any brand on Amazon should prioritize safety. There are innumerable items in the typical person's home, from cookware to bed linens. But do retailers ever think about the risks associated with these commonplace goods?

Amazon has measures in place to expedite regulatory processes in order to guarantee product safety. Additionally, vendors can upload the required compliance files to validate the safety of their products.

However, what exactly are Amazon compliance documents? What safety-related information should vendors be aware of?

Amazon Compliance Documents: What Are They?

To ensure consumer safety, certain items need to abide with international, federal, state, and municipal legislation. Amazon created a policy requiring sellers to provide documentation proving their goods are safe for general public usage in order to remain compliant.

When a seller lists a product for the first time, they often upload their compliance documentation. Amazon, however, has the right to ask for more documentation whenever necessary. This typically happens in response to an internal audit, a product regulation change, or a consumer complaint.

Here are a few instances of compliance documentation that Amazon has approved:

·       Safety certificates

·       Test reports

·       Label images

·       Safety manuals

·       Tracking labels

·       Registration cards

·       Compliance markings

Keep in mind that some sectors need particular paperwork. For instance, you must possess a Children's Product Certificate (CPC) if you offer products for children.

If your company doesn't follow these guidelines, Amazon has the right to restrict your store and remove your listing.

Do Compliance Document Uploads Become Necessary?

Not all sellers need to provide compliance paperwork. Documentation is necessary for things that come under any international, national, state, or local regulations.

For each item that fits into one of Amazon's prohibited item categories, sellers must further demonstrate compliance.

Below is an explanation of every situation.

Legal Regulations

More scrutiny is focused on some industries than others. These include companies that produce children's toys, automobiles, electronics, and pesticides. Products in these categories are more likely to target consumers who are most at risk of injury or contain hazardous chemicals and need to be properly labeled.

The USA has very stringent laws governing the use of various materials and chemicals. The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is one such.

The EPA prohibits the use of several chemicals, including PBT, PFAS, and PCTP, under the TSCA. These materials can be found in commonplace products including plywood, carpets, clothes, and lighters.

Additionally, some states have more stringent laws than others. For volatile organic compounds (VOCs), for instance, the California Air Resource Board (CARB) has some of the strictest regulations.

VOCs, which are found in air fresheners, cleaning supplies, and even some personal hygiene products (like hairspray), are responsible for air pollution.

Amazon's Product Restrictions

Apart from these legal restrictions, Amazon also has its own products that are prohibited. Some of these products, including hemp and CBD products, are completely forbidden. There are other things that need paperwork, including PPE masks.

Additional instances of products prohibited by Amazon that need for compliance documentation are:

·       Supplements

·       Certain food items

·       Any environmental product

·       Products made for children and animals

·       Alcohol

·       Fine art

·       Disinfectants

·       Cosmetics and skincare/haircare

·       Weapons

·       Burial artifacts

·       Lasers

·       Precious gems

·       Theft devices

·       Lighting

·       Medical devices

·       Seeds and plants

·       Postage stamps

·       Surveillance equipment

·       Tobacco

·       Upholstery

You are still able to sell these products even though they are on the Amazon restricted list. Before becoming live on Amazon, sellers need to apply for approval and upload specific documentation.

Restrictions could also apply to the promotion of specific products. For this reason, a lot of sellers turn to e-commerce consultancies for assistance while navigating the complexities of Amazon compliance.

Control the Compliance Dashboard

You must log into your Manage Your Compliance dashboard in order to upload your Amazon seller compliance documentation. You can handle the documents you've previously posted, reply to appeals, and fulfill other legal obligations here.

Navigate to your Amazon Seller Central account and select the Manage Your Compliance workflow from the menu. Navigate to Product Compliance Requests under Performance > Account Health.

Sellers will see the product name, image, SKU, and ASIN on the dashboard, along with the information that has to be documented.

There is a Compliance Requirements section as well. The papers you submitted, their addition date, and their approval status are all displayed in this section. Additionally, it will display the sales that each product has made over the last 60 days.

Methods for Uploading Documents

You'll notice a notification that your items need safety papers when you're on the Manage Your Compliance dashboard.

All you need to do is upload your compliance documentation by clicking the supplied link. You have the option of uploading multiple documents at once or in bulk.

You can add all of the papers you need to upload for different products in a spreadsheet along with the product names, ASINs, and compliance concerns.

Additional Services Offered by Manage Your Compliance

For Amazon merchants, this dashboard offers more than just a location to store compliance paperwork. It's also an excellent place to find out about new legislation and other areas you can run into problems. Examples include safety problems for particular businesses, such electronics and baby/children products, and import/export issues pertaining to orders sent internationally.

A reference section is also provided by Manage Your Compliance. Here, vendors can look for suppliers who can assist them in fulfilling legal obligations. However, brands should still make sure they have the appropriate paperwork and that the references Amazon offers are current.

How to Determine Whether You Disregarded Amazon's Compliance Rules

Even with the best of intentions, it is impossible to be aware of every compliance law or to stay up to date with regulatory changes. Fortunately, before your product may endanger someone's safety, Amazon will alert you to any compliance issues.

Go into the Manage Your Compliance dashboard to find out whether you are in violation of any of Amazon's compliance guidelines. A warning will appear on the dashboard, and Amazon will rate the overall health of your account.

Retailers who sell products that are prohibited should frequently check this section to make sure nothing is wrong. Sellers risk having their listings blocked or possibly having their accounts terminated by Amazon if they fail to correct the infractions.

How to Handle Problems with Amazon Compliance

You will receive information from Amazon on how to resolve the compliance issues. Although these procedures differ, they often entail the following steps:

·       Examine the infraction.

·       Compose an appeal letter, compile the necessary compliance paperwork, and send in a plan of action (if any).

·       Within 48 hours, submit all paperwork (or by any other deadline that Amazon specifies).

The formal resolution may not be received for up to seven days. Redeliver the documents if, after this period, you have not heard back.

You can view resolved infractions on your account health dashboard.

Always Keep Up-to-Date Compliance Records

Many everyday items that customers use may contain hazardous chemicals, which are particularly harmful to young people and small animals. Because of this, when selling specific products on Amazon, compliance paperwork are required.

Apart from global, national, state, and municipal legislation, Amazon might also enforce adherence to its own guidelines. Check your Manage Your Compliance dashboard to see whether any compliance paperwork are needed for your items.
